Translation of *The Little Prince* into the Changana language in Mozambique

The project to translate Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s *The Little Prince* into the Changana language (Xihosananyana) forms part of the international programme “*The Little Prince* at the Bedside of the World’s Languages”, led by the PIAF association with the support of our Foundation.

The official launch took place on 25 March 2026 at the Franco-Mozambican Cultural Centre (CCFM) in Maputo, as part of the Quinzaine de la Francophonie, positioning the project as a major initiative for cultural cooperation and the promotion of linguistic diversity.

The translation into Changana, a Bantu language widely spoken in southern Mozambique by around 1.4 million speakers, represents a strategic step towards improving access to reading materials in Mozambique’s national languages and supporting bilingual education policies.

2,000 copies were printed and distributed free of charge to libraries and cultural centres in the provinces of Gaza and Maputo.
