Nivaclé (2025)
This translation was a joint initiative to preserve the languages of Paraguay's indigenous communities, carried out by the Secretariat for Language Policy, the Alliance Française in Paraguay, our foundation, and the PIAF Agency. According to the 2022 national census, the Nivaké people number 18,300, representing 13.3% of Paraguay's indigenous population. It is the only indigenous language in Paraguay that has a language academy.
The translation was entrusted to Teo Servín, president of the Nivaklé Language Academy, and Avelino Falcón, a young translator from the community. The texts and translation were checked and corrected by Mirta Pérez, a language teacher in Nivaklé, and Avelino Falcón.
The project resulted in the publication and printing of 2,000 copies, which were distributed free of charge to the inhabitants of the region. The publication of The Little Prince in Nivaklé was announced at an event held at the office of the governor of the department of Boquerón, in the city of Filadelfia, on 13 March 2025.
A presentation of the book also took place on 20 March 2025 in Asunción at the French Residence in the presence of the French Ambassador and national and indigenous authorities.
It should also be noted that the Permanent Representation of Paraguay to UNESCO organised the presentation of the book at UNESCO headquarters in Paris during Latin American Week on 5 June 2025.
